Course Overview

This four-day course is designed to provide knowledge and experience in the management of major emergencies. It is based on the OPITO standards for OIM Controlling Major Emergencies and is conducted using a generic offshore fixed-leg production platform.

Course Structure

Delegates take part in practical scenarios and classroom work. The course can be adapted to a specific installation, if required, although some planning time and materials are required for course customization.



Target Audience

Onshore and offshore personnel from any background who wish to learn more about major emergency management or those personnel involved as part of an emergency response team.

Course content

  • An introduction to emergency management performance criteria
  • Briefing and de-briefing sessions with a final appraisal
  • Discussion on the essential elements of emergency management
  • Practical scenarios in custom-built simulator
  • Role-playing emergency response team positions


A Petrofac Training Services certification will be issued upon successful completion of the course.
